Last week, San Francisco’s ABV did its hometown proud at the Tales of the Cocktail festival (July 15-19) in New Orleans.

At the 9th annual Spirited Awards, held in conjunction with the festival, the year-old Mission cocktail bar was awarded the title of Best New American Cocktail Bar.

According to the event, this year’s pool of nominees  — around 2,000 — was the largest in its history. While several other San Francisco bars were nominated in various categories, including Trick Dog (World’s Best Cocktail Menu) and Nopa (Best American Restaurant Bar), ABV was the only local to take home an award.

ABV also took the top spot at another festival event, Bar Fight Club 2015, which pitted them against six other bars from around the globe, including Chicago’s The Aviary, Brooklyn’s Extra Fancy and London’s White Lyan, in a no holds barred competition to create — from drinks to ambiance — a pop-up version of their bar.

Other winners in the Spirited Awards’ American categories include:

  • Best American Bar Team: Employees Only (New York)
  • American Bartender of the Year: Ivy Mix (New York)
  • Best American Brand Ambassador: Brooke Arthur (House Spirits)
  • Best American Cocktail Bar: Williams & Graham (Denver)
  • Best American High Volume Cocktail Bar: Employees Only (New York)
  • Best American Hotel Bar: The Broken Shaker (Miami Beach)
  • Best American Restaurant Bar: Eastern Standard Kitchen & Drinks (Boston)

Visit the festival’s website for the full list of winners.
